Human Security

What do we mean by security?

Security is vital for all of us so that we can thrive, prosper and live fulfilling lives. However many of the action carried out by successive UK governments in the name of ‘security’ has actually made us less secure, both at home and around the world.

Human security is a new way of understanding global vulnerabilities, it’s proponents challenge the traditional notion of national security through militarisation, arguing instead that security should be at assessed at a human rather than national level. Increased militarisation does little to address threats such as pandemics and climate crisis and in fact hampers the international cooperation so essential in tackling them.
