Ask them to use social media to share messages of support. More ideas below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>SPREAD THE WORD<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use Twitter.<\/strong> Help create a Twitter storm by tweeting what you would spend \u00a355 billion on, to @hmtreasury with #GCOMS \u00a0#RethinkSecurity e.g. @hmtreasury &#8220;If I had \u00a355 billion a year I would prefer to spend it on\u00a0 #NHS. I prefer. #GCOMS #RethinkSecurity&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Look out for news stories<\/strong> of national and local cuts to health\/education\/overseas aid\/community development\/climate change and sustainable development \u2013 stories may provide useful opportunities for letters to editors, or messages to use in articles, letters or banners.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These are \u00a0&#8216;Global&#8217; days<\/strong> so emphasise the links and solidarity with others around the world taking action too.<\/li>\n<li>Share these <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/paxchristi.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/GDAMs-resource.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online Education resources<\/a><\/strong> with teachers\/schools to provide a way into critical discussion and student research<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/demilitarize.org.uk\/staging\/1381\/day-of-action\/churches-and-faith-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Resources for churches and faith communities<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Meetings and discussions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Organise an online meeting to engage a local community and make links with local needs\/local agencies\/health spending vs. military spending\/working on poverty and inequality\/environment\/social programmes. Use this as a chance for publicity: local radio\/TV and press are looking for stories!<\/li>\n<li>You could show one of the clips listed. They may also give you ideas for events\/visual presentations.<\/li>\n<li>You could invite your local MP join an online discussion about how budget priorities are set. It does not have to be sophisticated\u2026 something short and witty is what you want!<\/p>\n<p>CAAT, CND and Pax Christi members <a href=\"\/taking-the-message-to-parliament\/\">dramatized a \u2018game show\u2019<\/a> outside the House of Commons to show the lack of continuity between the government\u2019s priorities and that of the people. A student needing tuition fees received instead military hardware. An injured man received an aircraft carrier instead of medical treatment. An engineer seeking funding for a renewable energy project was left disappointed when she got given money for military projects instead. <strong>Perhaps you could make a short film to share online, making a similar point in a visually engaging way?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or you could take inspiration from <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/9po4ggUl-Ew\">these activists<\/a> who built a visual display to highlight how military spending vastly outweighs what would be needed to tackle world hunger, provide universal primary education and clean water.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Take Action for GCOMS 2020 10 April &#8211; 9 May (In UK).
