The UK has the 6th largest military budget in the world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/gdams-2014-london-action.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-887\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/gdams-2014-london-action-338x283.jpg\" alt=\"Kate Hudson, CND and Pat Gaffney, Pax Christi present 'cancelled' cheque to Ministry of Defence\" width=\"338\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a>The action in London, where speakers included Bruce Kent of Pax Christi,\u00a0Kate Hudson of CND, John Hilary of War on Want and Stuart Parkinson of\u00a0Scientists for Global Responsibility (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=be8u0Yx9UO0\">via video link<\/a>) was created to hand over cheques for a share of that \u00a338 billion military budget to\u00a0overseas development, health, environment and climate change and international\u00a0cooperation, to respective ministries.<\/p>\n<p>Letters were also presented\u00a0inviting each Minsters of State to meet with the NGOS to see\u00a0how\u00a0together a case could be made for reallocation of military spending\u00a0towards projects investing in human needs and sustainable development,\u00a0both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi urged those taking part to work all year\u00a0around to make links between issues of conflict, poverty and\u00a0the destruction of the environment. These are the real security threats\u00a0that our world faces.
