At GCOMS UK, we believe in a different future: one based on peace, diplomacy, international cooperation, and investment in the things that truly make people secure. We challenge the assumption that more weapons create more safety, and we work to expose the human, social, economic, and environmental costs of militarisation. We are a network of organisations campaigning on these issues, bringing the movement together and seeking to influence public debate and decision makers.

During the month-long Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) – in April/May 2026 – ordinary people here in the UK and around the world came together to challenge the insatiable appetite of our political leaders for vastly increased military spending. GDAMS might be over for this year, but our vital work calling for a different approach continues – and we need your support to increase our impact
Wars are raging around the world. Politicians tell us that the answer is more billions spent on the military, rather than investing in peacebuilding and engaging in global diplomacy. Military budgets are soaring. Across the UK and around the world, governments are committing ever greater sums to weapons, armed forces, and preparations for conflict. In the UK, military spending has risen by a massive 27% over the past 7 years (in real terms), while public services have been squeezed. Even greater increases are planned as part of new NATO spending targets. Keir Starmer recently pledged to spend an extra £18bn on the military over the next 4 years as he seeks to cling on to power.
At a time when humanity faces immense challenges —from climate breakdown to global poverty and inequality – and British public services are chronically underfunded, we cannot afford to continue to divert money away from tackling these problems.
At GCOMS UK, we believe in a different future: one based on peace, diplomacy, international cooperation, and investment in the things that truly make people secure. We challenge the assumption that more weapons create more safety, and we work to expose the human, social, economic, and environmental costs of militarisation.

We are a small organisation taking on some very powerful interests. We have previously received funding from grant-making organisations to keep us going, but we know that there are thousands of people who share our vision and want to be part of making it a reality.
Our work has never been more important. The latest figures from SIPRI (The internationally renowned Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) show that global military spending is at record levels, and if the actions of leaders match their rhetoric, that only looks set to increase in future.
Public debate is currently far too narrow due to the power of vested interests. Questions that should be asked are often ignored. What are the real consequences of these spending increases? Who benefits? What alternatives exist? How can we build genuine security without fuelling conflict?
We are committed to bringing these questions into the public conversation and supporting people like you who want to be part of an alternative future.
Your donation will help us:
- Speak to more groups to share our research
- Produce copies of our Campaigning Booklet for use on street stalls and at other campaigning events
- Meet MPs to discuss how military spending narratives can be challenged in Parliament
Every contribution, large or small, helps strengthen our voice for peace at a time when it is urgently needed.
Together, we can ensure that calls for peace, justice, and demilitarisation are not drowned out by the drumbeat of military expansion.
Thank you for standing with us.
